Mixing and mastering process, in addition to standard operations such as eq, automation or compression and limiting, is also based on enhancing the harmonic content of the instruments, in other words sharpening what gives the sound its timbre, colour and character.
This is crucial because timbre, which is the set of harmonics in a sound, allows instruments to be distinguished from one another.
Nowadays, music is often recorded on sound cards that record the signal extremely clean, resulting in a lack of emphasis on the timbre of the instruments, therfore I believe that it is especially important to take care of the harmonic content through the saturation of the recordings, and this is one of my greatest passions.
